The Christmas Appeal totalled £8407.50 (including gift aid) and the trustees of JHMT are thankful to God and to the Church family. The first recipient of the Christmas Appeal is Martin Povey, former Student Worker at Bishop Hannington and now working for the Association of Evangelists based in Eastbourne. The second recipient is our local charity Off The Fence, where several members of our BH church family work and volunteer. The appeal is particularly for the Gateway’s Women’s Centre Building.

We have had some great sermons during our world mission month from Exodus through to Revelation showing that God’s plan to bring Salvation through Jesus to all the nations & how He uses his people to do this, is woven throughout all of Scripture.
We are very thankful to all of our speakers for giving us such a clear picture of what God’s Mission is & both encouraging & challenging us to think how we can be involved. If you missed any of the talks, they are available to listen to through the BH website. Here are some of the highlights from the BH church family & our mission partners around the world: "In our youth group I’ve loved hearing about people going on mission trips to different parts of the world” “The talks have made me realise that God can send anyone to be a missionary anywhere in the world & that you don’t have to go to a foreign country to become a missionary” “One of the speakers asked us “Where’s the banana you’re eating come from? Where’s your favourite footballer from? Pray for that country!” really brought mission prayer into everyday life.” “It was good to hear different speakers who added strong teaching to the already brilliant Acts series on Evangelism-which Is God’s responsibility” “The Bible study book on World Mission that we have been doing in our small group have been good & challenging” We would love to hear from you
ick here to edit. This month we are recommending some great books that will inspire us of how God is using ordinary people around the world. They are available after the church services on Sunday so why not bring along a few pounds & enjoy some fantastic reads. We are even giving one of them away for free! WORLD MISSION AWARENESS MONTH
As we’ve been hearing about God’s Mission for the world & how He wants us to be part of that you may feel that God has been prompting & encouraging you to take steps to be more involved in World Mission in some way. Maybe you’d like to know how better to support our Mission Partners or would like to get involved in a short-term mission trip of some kind. Maybe you think God might be calling you to consider longer-term mission work. Or maybe you’d like help & resources to know how to share your faith with friends & family or would like to be involved in reaching out to our local community. The easiest first steps are to be praying & to get in touch with Katy Lambert (our World Mission co-ordinator) via the BH church office & let me know how we can help you. Jesus said "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20 This call to share The Gospel in Hove & around the world isn't stopped by any 'Lockdown' or 'Covid-restrictions'! This October our services, talks & prayer meeting will all have a World Mission theme including some guest speakers: 4th October Richard Brunton -Living Hope Ministries 11th October Kent Anderson -European Christian Mission 18th October Chris Binstead - Arab World Ministries 24th October Paul Young - Off The Fence, Brighton We would love all the church family to get involved in thinking about what it means to 'Go & share the Gospel' around the world. How about trying one of these ideas? Adopt one of our Mission Partners - get to know them & find out what life is like where they live. Read an autobiography of a famous missionary (Visit Books Alive in Hove for plenty of choices) Read 'Missions-How the local church goes global' by Andy Johnson Find out about what life is like as a Christian in a country you have visited or would love to visit & pray for them. (operationworld.org is a great resource) Get together with your small group and use 'Your place in God's plan for the nations' by Alan Purser as your Bible study guide for the term ahead. (available from www.thegoodbook.co.uk) As we celebrate Harvest and all that God had provided for us the James Hannington Memorial Trust (JHMT) highlight projects we would like to invite the church family to support. This year they are Kevin & Jen Cable who are heading out to Jaffa, Israel to start a church plant and FESTIVE who work to equip and support VI Form & Further Education colleges in the UK. If you would like to make a donation towards these projects then please contact the church office directly or the current edition of the BH news has the details. Rev Kevin and Jen Cable– CMS Mission Partners A little bit about ourselves: Kevin - I’m currently a Vicar in the Church of England, having been ordained 12 years ago. I was formerly a police officer, and am a Messianic Jew (a Jew who has accepted Jesus as Messiah), and have visited Israel many times. Jen – I’m a Nurse Practitioner, and have nursed for over 30 years. I grew up in Hassocks and came to BH throughout my childhood. My father and my sister are members of BH. I have been a Christian all my life, and share in the ministry of our parish in Southbourne, Bournemouth. God’s call to Jaffa. The Middle East has seen a rapid decline in the number of Christians in recent years. Yet, St. Peter’s, an historic Anglican Church in Jaffa, Israel (historic Joppa), is ready to be reborn. The building has been unused since the Arab- Israeli war of 1948, yet locals and the expatriate community have been increasingly calling for an Anglican presence and worshipping community to strengthen the presence of Christ. Archbishop Suheil in Jerusalem (whose father served at St Peter’s until its closure) and the Diocese of Jerusalem have been working towards and praying for many years for the church to reopen. Our call to ministry in Israel has developed over a long period of time and the Church Mission Society have helped us to discern our call, and partnered with us to: • Minister to the Christians serving in the large Diplomatic community in Tel Aviv -Jaffa. • To reach out to and serve the local community. • To demonstrate the love of Christ by providing support and welfare to the Seafarers who dock at the ports of Jaffa and nearby Ashdod. The news of St Peters re-opening is already bringing hope to the Christians in Jaffa, the launching point for Peter’s mission to the Gentiles. We receive no funding for this call, other than the donations and generosity of people who feel called to support this mission. Money raised will go towards us being able to serve in Jaffa Festive exists to equip and inspire gospel work in the often overlooked area of Further Education (16-18 year olds). We work with individual students and Christian unions around the country offering mentoring and encouragement to individual students (our student network) and free resources to CU’s. Here’s a couple of upcoming projects we would love your support with: Regional training days At the end of this year and into 2021 we are planning to run some new regional training days for Christians students in FE. These events will include teaching, worship and workshops with the aim of inspiring students to be bold in sharing Jesus and to better equip those involved in or thinking of starting up CU’s or mission activities. Money raised will go towards the promotion and running costs of this event and towards paying for some free places for students in our network. Growing our student network Normally we recruit around 80% of our student network at Christian summer festivals but due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to this year. As a result, many Christian students will be heading into college not aware of the support, encouragement and prayer that we offer. To meet this need we plan to connect with new students this year through carefully targeted social media campaigns and through new events and conferences. Money raised will enable us meet, connect with and inspire many new Christian students to live for and share Jesus at their college. Jesus said "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” This call to share The Gospel in Hove & around the world isn't stopped by any 'Lockdown' or 'Covid-restrictions'! So something to look forward to -this October we will still be having a World Mission Awareness month of some sort. Throughout the month we hope to have guest speakers & world mission-focused prayer times. We would love all the church family to be involved and for the various BH groups to make it a focus of their groups for October. More details to follow but mark it in your calendar for now. If you’d like to be involved contact Katy Lambert via the church office. The JHMT are pleased to announce that £5800 was raised for our 2020 Lent Appeal.
On behalf of The Milson family in Spain and Living Hope we would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who contributed towards these valuable projects. As we look towards Easter the James Hannington Memorial Trust highlight projects we would like to invite the church family to support. This year, they are: .Project 1:Living Hope Ministries Dear friends at BH You have always been encouraging to me as I visit from time to time to share God's word and update about LIVING HOPE. This year it has been my vision to bring together in Nairobi the leaders of the many groups who receive telephone ministry. The people are so enthusiastic and hungry for God's word. So to teach them live and work on how to make this ministry more effective is very important. We accommodate and feed them and have helped them with travel costs but only when they arrive. They need to be there at their own expense first. So some of them are on the road many hours. As Living Hope began in Kenya in 1994 it seemed good to have a 25 year Celebration with the Kenyans and so Saturday April 4th we will have representatives from Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Congo. We are also going to have two pastors from the Sudan who will come at their own expense. Aubrey representing Malawi and Mozambique has no passport but we will receive telephone greetings from him. LHM Africa now consists of 13 countries and I have team members to send to them so we have much to celebrate and thank God for. Your gifts will enable us to bless all these folk and send them back to their countries renewed and refreshed to serve the Lord. It will be sad for me because I must hand the baton on but of course our love, prayers and teaching by telephone continue God bless and thank you very much Richard and Elaine. Project 2: The Milsons with Crosslinks in Spain We are now two years into our time in Valencia and things have already changed a great. Language is progressing, friendships are developing, taste buds are changing, heat sensitivity is diminishing and perhaps most significantly Julian is now the Rector of the Anglican Church of Valencia (since October 2019). God has been so good to us and we love being part of the church community here. We’ve had the joy of seeing people grow in their faith as well as coming along to a Protestant church for the first time in their lives. There is so much gospel work to be done with so few workers here in Spain and we count it a real privilege that you are partnering with us. Our basic costs are fairly high and we are entirely reliant upon the churches and individuals who so generously give to our work. One significant contributor has been supporting us with £9000 a year. This support will shortly come to end leaving a substantial hole in our budget. We are so grateful to God for the help you are able to give us. |
