As we celebrate Harvest and all that God had provided for us the James Hannington Memorial Trust (JHMT) highlight projects we would like to invite the church family to support. This year they are
Kevin & Jen Cable who are heading out to Jaffa, Israel to start a church plant and FESTIVE who work to equip and support VI Form & Further Education colleges in the UK.
If you would like to make a donation towards these projects then please contact the church office directly or the current edition of the BH news has the details.
Rev Kevin and Jen Cable– CMS Mission Partners
A little bit about ourselves:
Kevin - I’m currently a Vicar in the Church of England, having been ordained 12 years ago. I was formerly a police officer, and am a Messianic Jew (a Jew who has accepted Jesus as Messiah), and have visited Israel many times.
Jen – I’m a Nurse Practitioner, and have nursed for over 30 years. I grew up in Hassocks and came to BH throughout my childhood. My father and my sister are members of BH. I have been a Christian all my life, and share in the ministry of our parish in Southbourne, Bournemouth.
God’s call to Jaffa. The Middle East has seen a rapid decline in the number of Christians in recent years. Yet, St. Peter’s, an historic Anglican Church in Jaffa, Israel (historic Joppa), is ready to be reborn. The building has been unused since the Arab- Israeli war of 1948, yet locals and the expatriate community have been increasingly calling for an Anglican presence and worshipping community to strengthen the presence of Christ. Archbishop Suheil in Jerusalem (whose father served at St Peter’s until its closure) and the Diocese of Jerusalem have been working towards and praying for many years for the church to reopen.
Our call to ministry in Israel has developed over a long period of time and the Church Mission Society have helped us to discern our call, and partnered with us to:
• Minister to the Christians serving in the large Diplomatic community in Tel Aviv -Jaffa.
• To reach out to and serve the local community.
• To demonstrate the love of Christ by providing support and welfare to the Seafarers who dock at the ports of Jaffa and nearby Ashdod.
The news of St Peters re-opening is already bringing hope to the Christians in Jaffa, the launching point for Peter’s mission to the Gentiles.
We receive no funding for this call, other than the donations and generosity of people who feel called to support this mission. Money raised will go towards us being able to serve in Jaffa
Festive exists to equip and inspire gospel work in the often overlooked area of Further Education (16-18 year olds). We work with individual students and Christian unions around the country offering mentoring and encouragement to individual students (our student network) and free resources to CU’s.
Here’s a couple of upcoming projects we would love your support with:
Regional training days
At the end of this year and into 2021 we are planning to run some new regional training days for Christians students in FE. These events will include teaching, worship and workshops with the aim of inspiring students to be bold in sharing Jesus and to better equip those involved in or thinking of starting up CU’s or mission activities. Money raised will go towards the promotion and running costs of this event and towards paying for some free places for students in our network.
Growing our student network
Normally we recruit around 80% of our student network at Christian summer festivals but due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to this year. As a result, many Christian students will be heading into college not aware of the support, encouragement and prayer that we offer. To meet this need we plan to connect with new students this year through carefully targeted social media campaigns and through new events and conferences. Money raised will enable us meet, connect with and inspire many new Christian students to live for and share Jesus at their college.
Bishop Hannington Church supports mission all over the world. Through the charitable trust, the James Hannington Memorial Trust, the church gives money and other resources to support gospel work in many different nations.
