Thought for the Day by Phil Washington (BH Member) To be or not to be... Be holy in all you do’ 1 Peter 1:15 The Bible is buzzing with the word ‘be’. Be strong, be kind, be still, be followers of God, be thankful, be examples, and here in 1 Peter 1:15 ‘Be Holy’. The word ‘be’ means to become. Peter here urges his readers, Christians scattered throughout the Roman provinces (1:2), to become Holy. He wants them to become ‘set apart’ for God. Like the vessels that were used in the ancient temple by the priests. The ‘world’ wants to press us into it’s mould, but Peter is urging us to fight that, and to let God mould us into His image. He urges us to ‘Rid ourselves of all malice, deceit, envy’ etc. (2:1). Then positively, to become more and more Christlike (holy). Live up to what we are as children of God. Peter’s encouraging letter is full of guidance – real practical stuff of what it means to be holy. It’s only four pages in your bible, so why not read it through. Find out how to be holy. It’s not an option – it’s a command of God! ‘ Be holy, for I am Holy’ (v16). As you seek to be more prayerful, then make this a request for others in the church family. It’s in line with the will of God, and is sure to be answered. Warm greetings to all the BH family Phil MyChurchsuite is tailored to the individualI just wanted to let everyone know that MyChurchsuite is tailored for the individual for example

Thought for the Day by Dave Howarth (Lead Pastor Holy Cross Church)Full of the Holy Spirit, (Stephen) gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7:55–56 Shall we pray? “Holy Spirit, do the same for us as you did for Stephen. By the eye of faith, let us ‘see’ the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God. Amen.” As he was being stoned for preaching the gospel, Stephen saw almighty Jesus. He rose for the occasion of Stephen’s greatest challenge. Indeed, Jesus is always caring for us — when we’re aware of it and when we’re not. Yet being aware of it is better by far! After proclaiming, “It is finished,” Jesus defeated death and ascended to the right hand of our Father. From there, he is always praying for us, ruling over the kings of the earth, and working in all things for our good. All of his enemies are becoming his footstool, as his kingdom advances. Hallelujah! This pandemic has done a number on some of us. Others of us have been struggling with hard stories long before C-19. May we not think that Jesus ignores us, doesn’t really care, or is disappointed with us. His love is the main thing we can count on in life. So may he fill your gaze and mine. Let’s pray again: “Holy Spirit, thank you for letting us see Jesus in this moment. No matter if the sky is filled with foreboding, dark clouds; or is mainly cloudless and blue; keep showing us Jesus, and it will be enough. So very amen we pray, in His kind and most-powerful name.” Can you help Phil? Can you give me a hand please?? I've got to move all my commentaries and some other books from the vestry to the study at the back of 80 Holmes Avenue. But I shouldn't really be carrying them (I've done something unpleasant to my hernia repair). Could you give me a hand at 2.00pm on Saturday 13th June? With a few of us, it shouldn't take long. Ideally bring a box with you that's easy to carry. And yes we can do it while socially distancing; so we will! If you can help, could you send me an email? (phil@moons.org.uk) I don't want loads more to come than needed... This isn't just for the men! Many thanks Phil Getting to know each other betterHave you ever been or are you in one of these situations?

Thought for the Day by Matt Jones (Associate Minister for MusicMusic devotional on Psalm 84. Read the Psalm, meditate and ponder it, and use the song to help you. Psalm 84 For the director of music. According to gittith. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm. 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! 2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young-- a place near your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. 8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty; listen to me, God of Jacob. 9 Look on our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. 10 Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. 12 Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
