Thought for the Day by Matt Jones (Associate Minister for Music

Music devotional on Psalm 84. Read the Psalm, meditate and ponder it, and use the song to help you.
Psalm 84 For the director of music. According to gittith. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
    Lord Almighty!
2 My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.
3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young--
a place near your altar,
    Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.
5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you,
    whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baka,
    they make it a place of springs;
    the autumn rains also cover it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength,
    till each appears before God in Zion.
8 Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty;
    listen to me, God of Jacob.
9 Look on our shield, O God;
    look with favor on your anointed one.
10 Better is one day in your courts
    than a thousand elsewhere;
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
    than dwell in the tents of the wicked.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
    the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
    from those whose walk is blameless.
12 Lord Almighty,
    blessed is the one who trusts in you.

Another quick lesson on Churchsuite- Small Groups

Picture
If you are a member of a small group this includes groups like Feast, Tuesday Group and the Cameo Bible study group you will be able to see your group on MyChurcusuite.  If you log onto MyChurchsuite and then click on My Groups on the left hand side your group will appear.  If you are member of more than one group you will see them all. If you are not a member of a group you will not have 'My Groups' listed.  If you are a member of a small group and don't have 'My Groups' listed then please contact your small group leader or the church office.
There a few bits of functionality that I would like to point out:-
  1. You can see everyone in your group and their contact details.  If their details are not showing it is because we have not had permission to make them visible.  If you are one of those people who hasn't got their details visible and you are happy for your details to be visible please contact the church office.
  2. You can join your Small Group meeting  on Zoom or Skype by clicking on the 'Join meeting' button on the top right.  If you don't have a 'join meeting' button it is because your group is not meeting on Zoom/Skype or the link has not been added in.  Please contact your Small Group leader or the office if it is not there and should be.
  3. You can email your small group by clicking on the Email button using a private email. Only group members can use the group email address – it's a closed group email system – group emails are not visible to anyone outside of the group.
If you have any questions about the 'My Groups' functionality please contact your Small Group leader or the office.

Book Reviews by Phil Moon (Vicar)

Back in April Phil recommended 2 books (see below).  We still have some copies in the church office so please let us know if you would like us to deliver one to you.
The John Lennox book is £2.50 and the John Piper book is £5. Just email the office and let us know office@bhmc.org.uk

Where is God in a Coronavirus World? by John Lennox is a gem. John is Scottish and in his spare time and retirement, an apologist for the Christian faith. This little book pretty much answers the question ‘How can you believe in a God when we’re struggling with Coronavirus?’ Of course it’s brief, and won’t satisfy everyone, but he writes thoughtfully and well, and covers the main bases. It’ll reassure you, equip you to answer your friends’ questions, and help you grow in your faith. And it won’t take long to read.

Coronavirus and Christ by John Piper is a book by a preacher. And its American, so the style isn’t immediately so accessible. But it’s thoroughly biblical. Packed with the Bible in fact. His aim is to get us thinking about the virus from a biblical perspective, and after a slow first 1/3rd it really takes off. This book will expand your biblical worldview. Have you thought about the biblical link between Corona virus and world mission? Well maybe this would be a good book for you! It was due to be published on 20th April but there seems to have been a holdup!
Which one to read? Well, they’re different, and trying to do different things. So I’d buy both. But if only one, I think I’d start with John Lennox.
