Thought for the Day
by Stephen Demetriou (Youth Minister)

Picture
1 Thess 1:9-10
… they tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead – Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.
1 Thess 2:19
For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when He comes? Is it not you?
1 Thess 3:13
May He strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with His holy ones.
1 Thess 4:16-17
For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord Forever…
1 Thess 5:23
May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

These are the last few verses of each chapter in 1 Thessalonians.
Did you notice what they all have in common?

They all talk about Jesus coming. At the end of every chapter (and in the middle of most!) Paul brings it up. Jesus is coming back!! Yes! What a tremendous encouragement and what a tremendous challenge to us.

The Thessalonian Church needed to hear this message over and over and so do we!
The church in Thessalonica was born in adversary (check out Acts 17 – it’s brutal!) and in times of struggle and difficulty like they faced and like many of us have been battling through; we need to see what’s coming, a taste of that future.
Jesus is coming. He’s coming to right all wrongs. He’s coming to fix what’s broken.
When the COVID blues hit again, when redundancy strikes, when family tensions rise, when relationships break down; hear again, Jesus is coming.
It may not fix the now, but He will fix the future. Remember that big picture and keep on going, waiting for Him.

Jesus is coming. What a challenge to us too because there are people we know who won’t survive that coming wrath (v10)… for whom meeting the Lord Jesus will be a scary experience.
Jesus is coming so tell people about Him! (share) Tell Him about people! (prayer!)
I think COVID season has made us more insular and selfish (maybe it’s just me!) yet Jesus is coming and so we can’t be selfish with our faith, we need to get sharing and prayer(ing)
because Jesus is coming.
And why not start by praying for FEAST as they kick off their Alpha course tonight? Pray for boldness from those members and pray that some, many would be rescued from the coming wrath of Jesus. Jesus is coming.
Stephen
