Thought for the Day by Matt Jones (Music Minister)

Picture
You are rich in Christ, rich indeed

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich” 2 Corinthians 8:9

A beloved verse by many, and you can see why. It’s packed with so much meaning, rich theological truth and assurance. A particular danger we all face during this lockdown period is the danger of ingratitude. We wish we could do more, see more people, be more free. And materially we may despise what we have, or what we may not have. And emotionally and spiritual we may become discontent thinking God is not doing much in and through us. But regardless of how we feel or what our current situation is, we can remind ourselves of our status in Christ; you are richly blessed. And this isn’t about money. This is about all of us once being destitute, lost, far out of the blessing of God, but now: spiritual trillionaires. ‘With every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms we have been blessed in Christ’ (Eph. 1:3). It doesn’t change, because He doesn’t change. So today take a moment out of the day and be thankful; thankful for everything you have, but most importantly that you are alive in Christ both now and for eternity to come. Out of His poverty, you have become rich.
