​                    God Cannot Change

          Our God is so BIG, so strong and so mighty
              There are some things God cannot do.

Do you remember Wham bars?
I had a craving for Wham bars at the beginning of the year, so as you do I ordered 60 from Amazon.

Wham bars used to cost 10p, they used to be this translucent purple candy bar of PURE joy – sweet, sour, crackles; Wham bars had it all.
So imagine the DELIGHT on my face when that box of 60 Wham bars arrived, oooh tasty! I ripped through the plastic packaging and took out a Wham bar… and I was severely disappointed.

It had changed.
It had changed for the worse!! It was now a small, pink, anaemic candy bar with the taste of handsoap - bubbles and all; disgusting!! Wham bars change!
 
And it’s not just Wham bars, but everything changes.
Flowers grow and fade and wither; the weather moves from wet freezing cold, to windy and freezing cold; COVID rules and regulations alter so much that no one quite knows what’s what anymore…Everything changes.
 
Everything changes.
 
Except God.

Psalm 102 paints this stark picture of how different our Creator is from His Creation:
 
25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
    Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,
    and your years will never end.
 
Malachi 3:6
I the Lord do not change.
 
Woah. God doesn’t change.
God is so different from everything in Creation. It all changes, it all wears out like ragged holey socks; even the most firm and secure things that we think are permanent, Mount Everest 5 miles high of pure mountain but given enough time, Everest will be eroded down, wear out and be blown flat.
 
God does not change.
And think about what flows from that: His character is always consistent; His strength never fails or dwindles; His Word never needs updating or changing; His love is constant and most brilliantly for us; His promises can NEVER be broken.
 
What. A. God.
God doesn’t change.
In an uncertain time and place; don’t we need to hear that?
Today; thank God that He does not change. Build your life on Him and His unchanging nature. Take comfort that whatever comes next in this COVID rollercoaster, God will not and cannot change.
