Thought for the Day by Dave Howarth (Associate Vicar Holy Cross)They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2.42 Since I recorded the 10am service, our government announced that we’re allowed to gather in groups of up to six. When you heard that news, who in your life did you first think of? Surely the Christians in Jerusalem would have thought of the Christians in Jerusalem. Their devotion to God and the people of God was beautiful, and as we’ll see in the 10am on Sunday, the results were powerful. There is hope. It is possible for our churches to be like their church. We have the same Lord and Saviour and Spirit as they had. But it’s not about programmes and initiatives from the staff. And it won’t happen if only a few of us – other people! – are dedicated to the four things of verse 42. It’s about you. And me. Our priorities, our attitudes, our actions, being in line with theirs. There’s the phrase, “be the change you want to see.” Or as hip hop collective Jurassic 5 put it in their track “Contribution”: Yo, either you a part of the problemOr part of the solution What's your contribution to life? So many people complain, always talk about change yo But what's your contribution to life? Either you with or ain't with it, if it ain't broke don't fix it Yo what's your contribution to life? Either you give or you take, make moves and you wait yo But what's your contribution to life? The Holy Spirit tells God’s people that our contribution to life involves being devoted to God’s people. And devoted is a strong word. What's happening online tomorrow at Bishop HanningtonPentecost SundaySunday Morning Joint Service with Goldstone and Holy Cross.
