Thought for the Day by Simon James-Morse (Minister of Goldstone Church)What’s in a Name God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: “I am has sent me to you.”’ (Exodus 3:14) This well-known verse is part of the life-changing conversation that God had with Moses from within the burning bush. Sadly, these words are often pigeonholed as the place where God just provides His name – I am who I am. But there is so much more to this verse. God reveals His Personhood. God spoke and personally interacted with Moses. God is not a feeling, a good idea, or even an ‘attitude of the mind’. God is a unique person – whose divine nature is beyond our human understanding. God reveals His Promise. God’s name, “I am who I am” is equally “I will be what I will be”. This underlines that God is eternal (see Psalm 90:2). God inhabits eternity; He is there – always. God’s name declares God’s promise: He is always with us (Deuteronomy 31:8). God reveals His Plans. God directed Moses what to do. Moses’ power and authority came from God. To put in bluntly, God’s plan is for God’s people to tell others about God’s personhood using God’s power (Mark 16:15). In these difficult times, we can live at peace because God is totally in control. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, help me to know You and Your presence like Moses did. It will take time, and there will be tough moments. But, as I reflect on the majesty of Your name today, may Your truth and grace burst into my life afresh. Amen World Day of Prayer"I enjoyed watching the World Day of Prayer service on YouTube. Only 33 mins long and excellent. It made me fell much closer to my Christian Brothers and Sisters around the world" Carol Head (Member of BH).
