Thought for the Day by Matt Jones (Associate Minister for Music)

Picture
Joshua 2
“When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. “Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you.” V11-12a
Our God is a Redeeming God! Praise Him.

I encourage you to read the whole of Joshua 2, so that you can see the narrative, but I have highlighted just a couple of verses. I wonder if you think Rehab deserved saving? She was of Jericho, a prostitute, definitely ‘outside the people of Israel’. And yet this women recognised who God was, recognises what He was doing through His people, and placed her life and everything into the purposes of God. And He saved her! And included her in lineage of Christ! That is simply outstanding. This shows the beautiful redeeming heart of God. And you, and I, sinful Gentile people who were on the outside, we have also been brought into the purposes of God! Outstanding!

Two responses for us today:
  1. Bow before the God of heaven and earth, whether in your heart, maybe physically prostrate before Him, remember that He is Lord over all.
  2. Acknowledge our sin and need before Him, He listens to our cry for mercy. Thank Him that in Christ through the cross we are redeemed. Praise Him for His kindness.
