Thought for the Day by Dave Howarth (Lead Pastor Holy Cross Church)So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun. Ecclesiastes. 8:15
For some, one upside of this pandemic has been a slowing down of pace. Yet whether we’ve got more space, or we’re “toiling” just as much as ever – if not more so – God (via Solomon) commends to us the enjoyment of life. If God had never commanded Sabbath rest, we probably wouldn’t take it. We’d be “couch potatoes,” but not necessarily “deep savourers” of God, and his good gifts to us. So today, slow down enough to say thank you to God —thank you for designing us for pleasure, and for the experiences of delight. The sadnesses of life since last March have been many. But consider too those things you have enjoyed. What have you done? What have you learned? What have you seen? Who have you connected with? Who have you grown closer to? Who have you served Christ with? All are gifts from God. Name your blessings and thank your Father.
