Thought for the Day by Ben Martin (Curate)

Picture
Will you indulge me in a little thought experiment?

Imagine one day you get a knock at the door, two men looking especially serious hand you a smart looking envelope with your name on it.

Inside is a letter which says that the two men have the authority and the right to seize every single one of your possessions.

The car keys hanging near the door must be handed over.

Your laptop, your phone and television all gone.

Your sofas, your armchair, your table and chairs, your bed shipped out.

Your fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and oven removed.

The chest of drawers and everything in them taken.

Your bike and even your lawnmower must go.

In fact, every single thing which you class as ‘yours’ is no more.

You stagger to the bank and find that all your savings and assets have been emptied.

You are 100% completely bankrupt. You have nothing.

If that were you, how would you react?

If you were like me I’m sure you would be weeping on your knees desperate for help because you knew that there was not one thing you could do for yourself.

Why do that little experiment? Because the Bible tells us that this is exactly our state before God… completely bankrupt.

But yet, why do I not weep over my sin?

But yet, why do I not cry out for help from my Lord?

Why do I look to myself, the one who has nothing to sort out my condition?

This Lent period let us remember our debt. Let us remember there is not one thing we can do to sort ourselves out. But as we do, let us remember the love of the Saviour.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins… But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions… For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:1,4-5a & 8-9)

The new church service booking system

You can access the new church service booking system the same way as before either through the church website or MyChurchsuite (if you don't have the internet you can still phone the church office).  On the website the link to the booking system is under Sundays.  On churchsuite to find the link look for 'My events' and scroll down or use the calendar to find the service that you want to book.  There is a link to the booking system at the bottom of the  'About' section.
There are a few things to be aware of when using the booking system.
  1. Tickets will be available to book 1 week before the service.
  2. If you are coming as a household please book everyone in at the same time.  The system allows for social distancing between bookings).
  3. If you are booking for someone else not in your household you will need to leave 4 seats between you and them.
  4. Please book your seats from the end of the row rather than in the middle of the row.
  5. When you come to the service you will need to know your seat row and number.
Any questions please contact the church office.
